An Update on Forthcoming
International Conferences on Teacher Education and Social Justice
(11 October 2010)

Dear Friends:

I hope that the fall is off to a good start for everyone. Some of you have been asking me whether the dates have been set for the next International Conference on Teacher Education and Social Justice, organized for the past 7 years by the Center for Anti-Oppressive Education (CAOE). I am writing to inform you that I have just decided to postpone these annual conferences for the near future ... and to recommend an excellent alternative.

As you may have already heard, and as I am honored to share, the National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME) has just announced that I will serve as its next president-elect from 2010-2012, and president from 2012-2014, following the fabulous Christine Sleeter who will be president from 2010-2012. You can see more about NAME and its upcoming fall 2010 annual conference at http://www.nameorg.org. During my term as president-elect, I will be responsible for helping to plan NAME's annual conferences, beginning with the fall 2011 conference. Therefore:

-If you are interested in participating in a conference on teacher education and social justice in the near future, I encourage you to join me at the NAME conferences. Many of you know that the field of teacher education and social justice has long had a presence at the NAME conferences, and I am confident that that presence will continue to build over the next few years.

-If you are interested in other venues to connect with antioppressive-education scholars, educators, and advocates, I encourage you to stay tuned to CAOE announcements (on CAOE's e-mail announcement list and website). Although CAOE is postponing its own conferences for the near future, it will continue to organize other events that focus on more targeted audiences, topics, and outcomes.

I look forward to seeing you at NAME and/or at future CAOE events, and I wish you all the best in this important work,
Kevin
